At one time, precious and rare alexandrite was only found in Imperial Russia, and was saved for royalty.
Today, it is still rare and precious, rivaling diamonds and fine rubies in price, but it has been found in Asia as well.
In honor of the Russian history, we set set this stone in an antique-style setting. 18k yellow gold forms a delicate band, coming up to hold the stone in a small, low box. Six diamonds- two baguettes and four tiny rounds- accent the central stone.
The alexandrite is a cushion cut measuring 5.5 x 5mm, weighing 1/2ct. It has a fine clarity and a nice teal blue shade, turning to brownish purple under various light. If you are unfamiliar with the fascinating color change and history of this stone, we highly recommend this article.
