Rough aquamarine: uncut, unpolished, undrilled. This piece measures appx 1/2" across, and just a bit narrower. This is an asymmetrical trapezoid in shape, with very visible crystal formation lines throughout and across the top.

This aqua piece is raw, nearly clear, and such a lovely ocean-blue color. We bought a parcel from an old miner in Arizona one year, and have been setting the stones ever since. Every now then a piece comes out of the parcel that just demands gold instead of our usual silver settings. This was one such stone, the more I gaze at it the more I am intrigued by the color depth...

We built the gold setting to fit the stone, wrapping a softly jagged bezel around the stone and creating a criss-cross platform beneath that echoes the crystal lines on top. Chunky lines of metal on the side connect the setting to the thick, sturdy band.

The band measures 5mm wide by just over 1mm thick. The edges are barely beveled, just softened for comfortable wear a bit. The stone setting is appx 15mm on top. Size 5, sizable up or down by about a size if needed, no extra fee for this. 14k white gold, cast from reclaimed gold, stamped WJ inside for Wexford Jewelers, as well as stamped 14k.

This ring is tough enough to wear daily, and could make an offbeat engagement ring or just a lovely addition to a gem collection.

One of a kind ring. Free inside engraving in this piece if desired.

This item is part of the Raw Collection

The Raw Collection

Raw gemstones- rough bits of mineral and color and fire pulled from the Earth and set directly into the metals they once shared ground with. Raw power, raw design... raw, unbridled nature- captured in art.

These are stones that have had no cutting, drilling, shaping or polishing whatsoever. They have internal inclusions naked to the world, crystal structures perfectly visible in some, while cleavage lines and shatter marks show up in others. This line is our second most popular, and quite often surprising people by how much they begin to love it.

This design line is in stark contrast to the CAD/CAM jewelry so often found in design schools and shopping malls. Nearly every piece is one of a kind, and custom work is a double blind adventure, as we cannot predict how the lines and curves of metal will follow the natural shards and angles of a stone.

Raw stones cannot be guaranteed, as they are often jagged and will wear over time. This, however, is one of the benefits of the line- a gemstones that will age while you do, slowly revealing the fire inside.

As often as we can, we buy the stones direct from the source- small mine owners in Kenya and Nigeria, Brazil and Oregon. We visit trade shows only once a year usually, so supplies are limited at best. Once a parcel of river sapphires sells out, that is often it until next winter, when we can meet up with the dealers again. This also makes it difficult to specially procure a size, color, or gem that may not be in our collection.
