How Color Affects Your Mood: The Science Behind Wearing These Gems

Why are all these playful gorgeous colors making me feel some sort of way especially in this dark grey winter month of February?

Well, color does more than complement an outfit it interacts directly with the brain. No wonder I feel HAPPY staring at this colorful ring! Psychological research shows that color can influence emotional response, energy levels, and even self-perception. This is why certain shades feel uplifting, grounding, or empowering the moment you put them on.

Bright and saturated colors stimulate emotional response and engagement, while softer hues support warmth and connection. Red is linked to increased energy, confidence, and emotional intensity. Pink is associated with comfort, affection, and emotional openness. Purple blends the stimulation of red with the calming qualities of blue, often evoking feelings of depth, meaning, and inner confidence.

Color psychology becomes especially relevant during the winter months, when many people experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or milder seasonal mood shifts due to reduced sunlight. Research shows that sensory stimulation including light and color exposure can help support mood and emotional balance during darker seasons. While color is not a cure, it can act as a positive modifier, gently influencing how we feel and engage with the day. A great time to slip on that juicy colored ring and gaze at it instead of staring out the window at the dirty snow piles (yes we are Michigan based and are feeling it!)

Adding a splash of red, pink, or purple whether through clothing or jewelry worn close to the body can scientifically influence mood by increasing stimulation, emotional warmth, and self-awareness. Jewelry, in particular, carries both visual impact and personal meaning, making color an intentional daily choice rather than a passing trend.

This season, color isn’t just about style. It’s about how you want to feel: energized, connected or grounded? Or maybe all three. :-)
