First Contact Star Rutile Quartz Ring
When a gemstone is this stunning, it needs very little to accent it. We've taken this 27 x 15mm elongated cushion cut rutile quartz and crafted a minimalist silver mounting. The stone sits low to the finger and is held in place with four sturdy prongs that flow into a simple split shank. A touch of curvature to the band echoes the rounded sides of the cushion shape.
Peek beneath the quartz and you'll see a hand-cut undercarriage that exactly echoes the shape of the rutile, leaving the finger visible through the clear parts of the stone, like a window into space.
Star rutile is a prized mineral phenomenon: quartz holds a six-pointed cluster of rutile inclusions that extend out from a center hematite point, forming a star shape.
